What's on your list?

I read a lot of lists about books.  I search for lists on line to see what other people are reading.  I always  read the New York Times book review and best sellers lists.  If there's a list out there I'm on a quest to find it!  So I thought it might be fun to do one of my own.  I'd like some group participation though!  I will recruit my book club to help me out as well, the more the merrier!!

I'd like to know your list, if you'd be so kind as to share it & in the end I'll post the master list here for you to see.  What I'd like to know is this:  if you were building your own personal library and had to start from scatch what 25 books would have to been it right off the bat?  I will assign 1 point for the 25th book on your list and 25 points for the 1st book, in the end giving us an idea of how many we have in common. I bet we'll be surprised! The more people who participate the better!

If nothing else I bet this list will compile a great reference if you're looking for what to read next!  If you just read along and don't have an account, email me.  If you could have your list to me by March 12th that would be great!  I can't wait to see whats on it!

Compiling this list was much harder than I thought it would be, which just showed me that I've read a lot of crap in my lifetime. I think I need to start working on the classics. ;) And, yes I would include each Harry Potter (wasn't just listing them to take up space). I love those books.

Yea! Thanks for your list. I know Nicole is working on hers too. Just so I know, is GWTW your #1 book? (for points reasons)
I'll tell you this, we have several of the same books on our list! I was just going to ask for 10 but that was even harder I thought so went w/ 25 :)

This challenge has proven to be much harder than I anticipated! I sat down last night with intentions of whipping out 25 books without a problem. I am finding that is definitely not the case! I do have a tentative list but I am still torn on which books truly belong in my top 25! What an interesting challenge!

Actually, To Kill a Mockingbird would be first (as my favorite), but for some reason Gone With the Wind came to mind first. I was at work when I was writing them down. But, it would probably be number 2. Love it, and always hope in the end Rhett forgives Scarlett instead of walking out on her. But, we all know how it really ends. Unless you've read Scarlett and think they do eventually get together (which I did read and didn't believe). Oh well, tomorrow is another day. :)

Ok, so here it goes:

1. Wuthering Heights
2. Lord of the Rings
3.Shakespeare's Complete Works
4.The Kite Runner
5. Harry Potter
6. Twilight
7. Of Mice and Men
8. The Lovely Bones
9. The Great Gatsby
10. Pride and Prejudice (which I haven't read but think it's a must)
11. Gone With the Wind
12. Memoires of A Geisha

13. Where the Red Fern Grows
14. White Oleander
15. Charlotte's Web
16. Loving Frank
17. Sarah's Key
18. The Bridges of Madison County
19. The Diggingest Dog (my favorite from childhood)
20. The DaVinci Code
21. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe
22. The Lord of the Flies
23. The Hobbit
24. Atonement
25. The Bible

This was very difficult and I still am not sure that I have the books in there that really should be. I struggled with knowing a lot of the classics should be in there and yet there are many I haven't read. Some I picked for sentimental reasons and I cheated a little with Shakespeare's Complete works.....I actually currently have that and would be fine with people chosing individual titles but I truly feel that everyone should have at least ONE work of Shakespeare in their library! I really enjoyed this challenge even though it has entirely consumed my brain. I must submit this and stop thinking about it now for a while! Thanks Melanie!

I spent and embarrassingly long time whittling this down to 25... And actually, all of these are books I already own! That's kind of funny... I counted whole series as one book, but I put just my favourite one of each series in parentheses in case only one can be counted.

1. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
2. The Picture of Dorian Gray by 3. Oscar Wilde
4. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
5. Gone With the Wind by Margarett Mitchell
6. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
7. Dragonlance books written by Margaret Weiss & Tracy Hickman (Dragons of Autum Twilight)
8. The Harry Potter series by JK Rowling (Prisoner of Azkaban)
9. The Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer (Artemis Fowl - the first one)
10. The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis (The Silver Chair)
11. The Space Trilogy by CS Lewis (Perelandra)
12. The Winnie the Pooh books by AA Milne (Now We Are Six)
13. The Dark is Rising Sequence by Susan Cooper (The Grey King)
14. The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame
15. Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger
16. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
17. The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald
18. The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice

Thanks Nikki! I'm glad you participated. I thought you might. It was hard wasn't it!! I own almost all on my list as well. I noticed that #3 on your list didn't come out. Can you let me know what it is?

I have picked up a Picture of Dorian Gray a dozen times but never read it. I think I need to though. Thanks again! Melanie

Thanks for such a great challenge Melanie! The "Mouse" book (#2) was my daughter's favorite book when she was small - had to make it my #2. I have seen the movie GWTW 25 times (seriously) and read the book about 3 times. I see I have some books that others picked - but not alot of "classics". This was fun!
